Characters Again

Simplifying the shapes for both characters made poses so much easier. So I've simplified Alex's body to a bean shape. rounded shoulders and flat torso bottom. Kate has the more angular shoulders and longer legs compared to her upper torso.

A paint last night to visualize the scene.

Iso

Layout Revision + Isometric.

Hey guys, I did an isometric trucked in more to the building as well as revised the layout, added more trash cars etc.  I am moving on to values and colors.  If anyone has qualms with any of these please let me know as soon as possible and I can fix.  Don't hold back.

Good exerpt from book

Here is a good quote from the book that nicely depicts the attitude of Alex in our scene.

“He was frozen through and through, and never in his life had he needed so much to throw himself into someone's arms, but when the elevator door finally opened onto the eleventh floor and he was standing before his grandmother, he was determined not to let her see his weakness."

character sketches

hey guys!  since most the notes I got were acting related, I drew Alex and Kate a lot.  I've been listening to the audio over and over again, trying to figure out Alex.  Do you feel he is more wounded, or curious in this scene?  I'd love some feedback.  Thank you!

WIP ISO Shape Design

I'll start designing it and painting it soon. Christy, I looked at the storyboard and there's actually an arch (the blue lines) for the wall in Hillary's Board. However, what you gave me is a row of cabinets hanging on the ceiling so I don't think it seems stable enough for cabinets. Unless I'm wrong please correct me. Here's what you gave me before.

Edited version of schematics, with a turn-around of the shelves/couch in the center since it's hard to see in the schematic angles.

Exterior layout Revision

Hey Guys, Sorry I can't make it to the meeting because of class. This is the Exterior, I know I still need to dirty up the street and add more elements to it but please let me know what you think? what i should change if you feel there are changes to be made.  Also, i've done color studies that i still need to work on + an isometric I am retrying.  I am going to be working on this stuff tonight and going to update.

New Schematic Layouts WIP

Front

Back

Hey guys, I'm not going to be able to make it on campus tonight, unless someone says it's urgent.

I have these to show the composition of the walls.

I need some feedback on these wall-layouts before I make them into a finished schematic.

In the front view I think the focal points of the room are working better now, though Mer-Bear  might be competing with those wonked out shelves... shall I change those shapes??

In the Back view I want the uni-skull first read and Kate's round table second. Could someone let me know if that's working?

I am also going for a turn-around of the couch-area, I will update this post soon w/ that.

Unicorn Skull WIP

Still a work in progress

Exterior

This is the exterior.  Please crit so i can finalize it.

New Characters

Becky redrew kate for me. I think the relaxed shoulders are so much better for her..

Just showing work

Just throwing out work. I'll get a turn around for this soon and I'm working on some more props and putting them in the environments. Sorry for being slow. After this week I'll be done with my sister's wedding painting and everything will kick up.

Attention Team

Hi Viz Dev,
This is what I want from each of you by tomorrow. Either meet me in the BFA lab tomorrow 9:30pm (after Barrons class). If you can't, send them to me through the blog or by email:
puppy.lynn@gmail.com

Christy- Have the living room iso done. Ask Hilary which boards are tied down so we start drawing the layotus.

Dang- Show me the finished kitchen iso.
Kevan- you're going to start doing kitchen layouts based on Dang's iso.

Polly- Finish the exterior layout and put some color on it. It should describe the scene before the pitch

I will finish up characters tonight and start working on color keys. I will help on layouts too.

Hilary, we'll talk tomorrow about which boards are tied down so I can start figuring out color keys.

let me know if you guys have any questions!

Merbear painting and Turnarounds

Painted the merbear and made the turnarounds for the two props.  Feedback would be great!

Kate-Morphy again

Here's what I have so far (again). Sorry it took so long , but I broke the rig's head off yesterday, so I had to start over, haha. I was hoping we could get a little shirt, belt, and pants from Winnie some time this week... and slippers if there's time! The slippers would just be for the pitch, since I doubt either of us animators will have the feet in our shots.
A cigar would be awesome! I'll make a placeholder one for myself though, so don't worry about it.

I was talking with Annlyn about her shoulders, and how I thought the more relaxed positions suited her  attitude better (If we're looking more at Phyllis Diller). Let me know what you think!

Merbear that can be used

New merbear that can be used for the environment.  Merbear turnaround and unicorn turnaround will be finished early tomorrow! sorry for the delay....

Christy-Color Palette

Christy, I like this. Cool purples/limes can just be accents.

I think the kitchen should give off a different tone. More tints, diluted. less personality than the living room.

I did some bad test paint over one of the rooms last night, thinking about old furniture, voodoo, and old vintage palettes like this: http://laughingsquid.com/wes-anderson-film-color-palette-chart/

I think the palette can be simplified if we think about the local colors of the walls, floor, ceiling first. (while thinking about our light sources. Let's do a testpaint over on one of the rooms with the palette you made.

Sorry I wasn't here before you left :( I will be in the building tomorrow and we can work on tying down the orthographic with new Merbear so prop artists can start to visualize props in the scene.
I will consult you on color keys soon~

Alex with Winnie's props

Here is the current progress with Alex. Big thanks to Winnie for the hair, jacket, and so forth. I also added a little redness to his nose and cheeks.

Been spending the night studying color...

Here's a sample of colors from Paranorman w/ similar lighting. We want the similar warm vs cool and value proportions but maybe switch out for a few more tropical colors.

SO, tried a few pallet variations and this one seemed the most versatile to include the kinds of things we want.

Hope to get some feedback. I really want to get this down... How could I simplify it even more?

MerBear Drawover

I feel as if you're angling too frequently. Merbear is a large piece and his form should read that way. Not as many smaller pieces put together. There are wonks to Laika's style, but also harmony

Horizontal Merbear for Christy

Only did a couple horizontal poses for the merbear.  Feel free to draw over them if you feel that the pose can be better.

More Alex-Morpheus

Dang's Props Redo

I still have more to designs so this is what I have fixed so far. For the beetle since there are so many different shapes I was thinking of putting a bunch of beetles in a box like it was a collection of petrified beetles. Also, I'll make some necklaces and jewelries beetles as well so that it'll read better rather than just one beetle.

Reworked the Merbear a little bit

So...I looked at my merbear and didn't really like it.  Felt like there was no breathing room around the head, so I elongated the neck.  And I uploaded these images for dlp to explain the textures and etc.
